How Much Does B Corp Certification Cost in the UK?
The B Corp certification cost in the UK has three parts, and B Lab UK publishes all of them: a one-off submission fee, a verification fee and an annual certification fee, each set by revenue band. For a business turning over less than £150,000, the three add up to £1,560 plus VAT in the first year. For a £60 million business it is £26,000. The fees are only part of it, though, and for most small companies the bigger cost is the time.

The B Lab UK fee table
B Lab UK's published prices exclude VAT, and it has committed to freezing its fees through 2026 while companies move onto the new B Corp standards. Revenue is taken from your last set of audited accounts.
| Annual revenue | Submission fee | Verification fee | Annual certification fee |
|---|---|---|---|
| £0 to £149,999 | £200 | £360 | £1,000 |
| £150,000 to £499,999 | £200 | £720 | £1,250 |
| £500,000 to £999,999 | £200 | £1,080 | £1,500 |
| £1m to £2,499,999 | £200 | £1,440 | £2,000 |

| £10m to £14,999,999 | £400 | £3,600 | £6,000 |
| £15m to £19,999,999 | £400 | £3,600 | £8,500 |

| £100m to £174,999,999 | £800 | £7,200 | £30,000 |
| £175m to £249,999,999 | £800 | £7,200 | £35,000 |
| £250m to £499,999,999 | £800 | £7,200 | £40,000 |
| £500m to £749,999,999 | £800 | £7,200 | £45,000 |
| £750m to £999,999,999 | £800 | £7,200 | £50,000 |
Above £1 billion, pricing is set case by case. B Lab UK also notes that additional fees may apply to complex and multi-site companies, and that companies with more than $75 million of revenue or 250 or more employees may face scoping and site audit fees.
What that means in practice
Add the three fees to get your first-year bill to B Lab UK, then add VAT:
- A sole trader or micro business under £150,000: £200 + £360 + £1,000 = £1,560, then £1,000 a year.
- A small agency at £300,000: £200 + £720 + £1,250 = £2,170, then £1,250 a year.
- A £3 million manufacturer: £200 + £1,800 + £2,500 = £4,500, then £2,500 a year.
- A £12 million business: £400 + £3,600 + £6,000 = £10,000, then £6,000 a year.
The annual fee is the one that compounds. Over a three-year certification cycle, the micro business pays £3,000 in annual fees on top of its first submission and verification; the £12 million business pays £18,000.
A three-year budget
B Corp certification runs on a three-year cycle, so budget over three years rather than one. For the small agency at £300,000, the fees to B Lab UK look like this, before VAT:
- Year one: £200 submission, £720 verification and £1,250 annual fee, a total of £2,170.
- Year two: £1,250 annual fee.
- Year three: £1,250 annual fee.
That is £4,670 in fees over the cycle, or £5,604 with VAT, which a VAT-registered business can normally recover. Two things can move it. If turnover grows into a higher band, the annual fee follows your latest audited accounts, so a business that crosses £500,000 moves from £1,250 to £1,500 a year. And the 2026 freeze is a commitment for 2026 only, so do not assume the same fees at recertification.
Budget the internal time alongside it. A reasonable way to estimate it is to list the evidence you will need under each impact area, mark what you already have, and cost the gaps in days. That exercise is useful even if you decide not to certify, because it is an honest audit of where your policies stand.
Equity pricing
B Lab UK offers a 40 per cent reduction in annual fees for qualifying businesses with under £5 million of revenue that are owned by people from under-represented groups. The criteria are on its pricing page and are worth checking before you budget, because on the £2,500 band that is £1,000 a year.
The costs that are not in the table
Staff time
This is the largest real cost for most small companies. Someone has to gather evidence on governance, workers, community, environment and customers, write or update policies, and answer the verifier's questions. Plan for it as a project with an owner and a deadline, not something done around the edges of a job.
Policies you do not have yet
Many applicants discover gaps: no whistleblowing policy, no written supplier code, no measured carbon footprint. Each takes time to put in place properly. Our guides on setting up a whistleblowing policy, measuring a carbon footprint and writing a code of conduct cover three of the most common.
The legal change
B Corps have to build stakeholder consideration into their governing documents. For a UK company that normally means amending the articles of association, which takes a special resolution and, for many companies, some legal advice. Our explainer on directors' duties under the Companies Act 2006 shows how this sits alongside section 172.
Consultants
Optional. Some companies hire a B Corp consultant to run the process; others do it in-house using B Lab's free tools. A consultant does not reduce B Lab's fees, so weigh the day rate against the internal time it saves.
The new standards
B Lab has introduced new B Corp standards, and the 2026 fee freeze is explicitly intended to help both new applicants and existing B Corps make that transition. If you are starting now, make sure you are working to the current standards and not to old guidance, which was built around the previous B Impact Assessment score. Check B Lab UK's own pages for the timetable that applies to you.
Is it worth it?
For a business selling to customers or employers who look for the mark, the fees are small against the value of a verified claim, especially as UK rules on green claims tighten; our guide to UK greenwashing rules explains why unverified claims are now a risk. For a business that only wants a sustainability framework, the same work can be done without certification, and our comparison of ESG, CSR and sustainability will help you decide which you actually need.
